Emotions are complicated. From toddler tantrums, to elementary melt-downs, to teenage blow-ups, navigating strong emotions can be challenging. Helping children learn to identify and name the emotion they are feeling is an important step in knowing how to handle strong feelings.

Grace Warner, a graduate of Lakeland High School, won the Women's Snowboard Street Style event at X Games Aspen 2024 and took 4th at X Games Aspen 2025. She returned to her roots to host "Grace's Getaway" in 2024, a two-day women's retreat and riding event held at Pine Knob Ski Resort.

Rachel Hopmayer, sports anchor for CBS Detroit, spent the day with Ms. Fogleman's sports classes at White Lake Middle School to discuss her career. She shared stories of her journey but also presented the idea that everything she needs to know for her job, she learned in middle school ELA. Of course, those skills were refined as she went to high school and college, but the foundation was built in middle school. She emphasized the importance of strong communication, critical thinking, and storytelling—skills she first developed through reading, writing, and analyzing texts in English Language Arts.
