Congratulations to three teams that were named Academic All-State this past weekend. The Lakeland Boys Basketball Team earned honors with a 3.741 GPA. Both the Huron Valley United Boys and Girls Swim and Dive teams matched their success in the pool this season with excellence in the classroom this school year. The Girls Swim and Dive team earned MISCA Team Academic All State with the 3rd highest team GPA in Division 1. The Boys Swim and Dive team moved up a spot from their 2nd place finish last season, earning MISCA Team Academic All State Honors with the best team GPA in Division 1! This is the first top finish for any Boys or Girls Swim and Dive team in district history. Both teams had the 4th highest GPA in the state, across all divisions, while each extending their team Academic All State streak to 4 straight seasons. At the National Level, the Girls Swim and Dive team earned NISCA National Scholar Team Gold award, while the Boys team earned the NISCA National Scholar Team Silver Award. This is the 4th straight national scholar team award for the Girls team, and 3rd straight Gold Award, the top honor. The Boy's team extended their own national scholar team streak to three years with this year's Silver Award. #WeAreHVS #HVSsuccess

The Huron Valley Winter Guard finished their season at World Championships down in Dayton, Ohio and Northern Kentucky this past weekend. On Thursday and Friday, the group competed the prelims, semi-finals, and finals, in 2 different states. They made Semi-Finals (top 36), going in as 9th place seed, and came out of Semi-Finals in 6th place. The group competed in Finals on Friday night. This is the first finals appearance for Huron Valley Winter Guard in its program history, finishing in 7th place overall! The group had an absolutely incredible season, going undefeated all the way to Worlds, with 2 National Regional Gold Medals, a State Championship Gold Medal, and their incredible finish this weekend. We are so proud of them all!!! The Huron Valley Drum Line also competed at their Championships for Michigan this weekend, and after being moved up a class (this is due to the performance level, show design, and achievement level of the members), they finished in 2nd place at Championships, taking the Silver Medal. Drum Line will be competing at World Championships this week! #WeAreHVS #HVSsuccess

We are proud to partner with law enforcement to offer the T.E.A.M. program to our 5th and 7th grade students in some of our buildings. T.E.A.M. stands for Teaching, Educating and Mentoring, and was adopted by the Michigan State Police to replace the older DARE program. This is a 10-week program taught by a certified officer in the classroom. Topics include vaping, alcohol, drugs, gun safety, school violence, bullying, the court system, and cell phone/computer/internet safety. At the end of the program students complete an essay showing what they have learned. Students also receive a certificate of completion, a T.E.A.M. shirt, as well as giveaways throughout the program. #WeAreHVS #HVSsuccess
