General Tips for Success : It is very important for you to stay involved in your child's education. To help your child become a more effective student you should:
Structure a consistent time and place for completing homework and studying.
Monitor grades and homework completion using Family Access.
Collaborate with teachers when you notice your student is having trouble.
Contact your student's counselor for additional resources.
Free Tutoring Resources: Peer tutoring is available through the National Honor Society group. Dates/times TBD.
Paid Tutoring : Some teachers at Lakeland and other Huron Valley schools offer paid tutoring services outside of school hours. Costs may vary from teacher to teacher. Contact your student's counselor for a list of tutors.
Check Grades on Family Access : To enroll, you may email Family Access or call (248) 676-2350. Allows both parents and students to view assignments, grades, attendance, and cafeteria purchases.
Facts for Families : The American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry presents this website in order to provide concise and up-to-date information on issues that affect children, teenagers, and their families. Although it is by no means an exhaustive guide for how to address any issue your student may encounter, it is a great informational resource on a wide range of topics including anxiety, depression, alcohol/drug use, and much more. Please speak with your child's school counselor if you need further support or resources relating to any concerns affecting your child.
Learning Express Library : Awesome, free, resource for parents and students provided by the Michigan Electronic Library. This site offers study and remedial strategies to increase student skills in many different areas. Just create a free login id and you can access an array of courses, practice questions, and review guides in all subject areas. Also includes test preparation (A.C.T., S.A.T., G.E.D., etc.) under College Preparation.
