MHS Career Expo 2023 a success! We had over 300 eleventh grade students attend a keynote session with Milford alum Ben Stephenson, Vice President, Global Practice Lead for Kelly Science and Clinical Research. Ben spoke to the students about goal setting and how to plan for the future. After hearing the keynote speaker, students had the opportunity to explore more than 80 local businesses as they had set up booths for the students to visit and talk with. The goal of the career expo is for students to explore career and education options and to think about which option is the best fit for them after they graduate from high school. They were seeded with the question "What path will you take to obtain the career and lifestyle that you want? It’s up to you to create the life that you want!" Thought options included: On the job training Certification program Apprenticeship Vocational/trade school Military Community College Four year university Possible question topics for the career presenters: Education or degree required, average wage, job duties, potential for advancement, job satisfaction. Possible question topics for the post-secondary institutions: Admissions requirements, tuition and room/board costs, majors or programs offered, financial aid and scholarships available, extracurricular activities offered. Thank you to Ms. Engel and the CTE team for putting on this very successful event for the Junior class!

Every so often, a piece of theatre comes along that has the opportunity to have an everlasting impact on those who view it. Whether it's calling attention to a particular issue or presenting cautionary tales, these pieces educate and inform through empathy and insight. A small group of actors at Milford High School have chosen to take on a piece that does just that. The Milford High School Theatre Company will present The Triangle Factory Fire Project (a re-telling of the tragic 1911 factory fire that had social, political, & economic repercussions that have lasted to this day) at the MHS Performing Arts Center on March 3, 2023 at 7:00pm and March 4, 2023 at 1:00pm & 7:00pm. Tickets are available online at www.mhsperformingarts.com and they will also be available at the door.

Education General 2 students have spent this week completing training on MY-Registry to prepare for pre-student teaching in our district area schools. This hands-on learning experience will allow students to see first hand what a career in education entails. As a new CTE class in our district, possible college credit or scholarships could be sought. It is part of the new state Future Proud Michigan Educator launch that many districts are starting. This training follows students post high school and can help them find entry level employment in many fields working with children. Keep an eye out in the spring, our Cadets will be in the following buildings: Johnson Elementary (2), Highland Elementary (5), Heritage Elementary (5), Muri Middle School (1). A huge THANK YOU to our district host teachers!

The Stagecraft class is part of the CTE track for visual and performing arts at MHS. The class meets as a 7th hour every fall and students learn technical theatre skills and complete several hands-on projects. One of the culminating projects this past fall was a Fake Foods Project. Students worked in small groups to create a realistic full meal using entirely non-edible materials. Groups decided on a meal genre - Italian, Mexican, Fancy, Asian, Starbucks, All-American, Breakfast, etc) and had to create 8 individual pieces. The photos here include two of the Starbucks items - a coffee drink and some cookies. These items are made with clay, resin, paint and actual Starbucks packaging. Other projects include scenic painting for the fall musical, creating fully realized stuffies from drawings provided by Highland Elementary Junior Kindergarteners (sewing project) and a 1/4" scenic design model. Stagecraft is a 7th hour open to any junior or senior. Students can see Ms. Weeks for more information and to sign up for Fall 2023.

Milford High School proudly displays a class composite from each graduating class in the hallways. 1985's class composite has been missing for years, but Ms. Pawley, our media technician, and Ms. Hoye, our office para, were able to bring it to life by searching and recreating it. Also available are archived yearbooks from the past on the MHS website. So no matter where you are, you can look at them!
