What a truly special week this was for the band programs in HVS at the high schools! Director Bob Green shared with us his experience-
At the beginning of the week, I was notified that State Solo and Ensemble Results were completed, and we had an incredibly successful event for our kids. I will share out a separate email soon with a breakdown in greater detail, but in short:
IA - 13 medals awarded, including 5 excellent and 8 superior
LHS - 14 medals awarded, including 7 excellent and 7 superior
MHS - 13 medals awarded, including 3 excellent and 10 superior
In total, of 41 possible individual medals, we were awarded 40, with 15 being Excellent Rating (II), and 25 Superior (I) ratings!!!
I was also notified that one of our events, our Woodwind Chamber Ensemble (students from all 3 schools) was selected as an Outstanding Small Ensemble Nomination to the 2022 Michigan Youth Arts Festival. Even though the festival is not happening this year, the nominations were still completed and this is a huge accomplishment for these students!
On Thursday and Friday, our Huron Valley Winter Alliance Winter Guard competed at World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, having a fantastic performance in prelims that earned them a spot in Semi-Finals. Although they did not advance to finals, they had a great run in Semis and had an incredible year!
On Saturday, Lakeland hosted the first ever State Championships for the newly formed winter percussion circuit, the Michigan Alliance for Performing Arts. The event saw over 500 performers compete all day at Lakeland. In the end, our group, the Huron Valley Percussion, jumped 2 spots from their rankings, capturing the Bronze Medal and 3rd place finish in their class at States!
It was a truly incredible week and we are so proud of all our groups!
Thank you all,
Bob Green
