In a week's time Milford Miracles has raised $8,325. Great job Mavs and the MHS community! We will be able to help out 15-20 families this holiday season with the money raised. The Joe Kocur Foundation has partnered with Milford Miracles and is helping an additional 40 families in the area. Thank you so much to students, families, teachers, office staff, the Class of 2024, and Schwartz's Deli for the generous donations.
Milford Miracles was started in the early 2000s by Milford High students in Spanish Club wanting to directly help families in the Huron Valley area. It was designed to be similar to the Toys for Tots program. Spanish teacher Cathy Longcore was the Spanish Club sponsor when this program was started. "It was a new initiative. We had so many members of the Spanish Club, the club officers felt that we could tackle a big project. I'm so glad we did!" Longcore furthers explains that in their best year under her supervision over $24,000 was raised and they helped over 30 families that year.
Since then the Leadership class and teacher Dave Gilbert have taken over running Milford Miracles. "Milford Miracles is Leaderships favorite event, as we get to help families in need while also having fun doing it. It promotes gratitude, happiness, and love," explains Senior Emma Giese. "Last year for Milford Miracles we were able to help 19 families and raise over $10,000." Next week Leadership classes will shop and begin wrapping all gifts.
