Muir Student Council
Goals: The Muir Student Council works to make our school better through activities and community service. Meetings are scheduled throughout the school year depending on projects.
What is Student Council? Student Council is a student-run extracurricular activity that allows students that meet a specific criteria to be a bigger part of Muir and represent the school in various ways. (Not to mention it looks good on a college application.) We elect a president, vice president, and secretary at the beginning of every year. These positions help navigate meetings and keep them running smoothly. Throughout the year, we have meetings that allow us to plan and carry out different events which can be seen in the “What we do” section.
What we do: We plan different school fundraisers and events throughout the year. This is done through scheduled meetings. Even though what we do is constantly changing and being altered, below is a list of our current yearly happenings:
Halloween Dance
Volunteer for Two Outside of School Events
Sell event tickets
Adopt-A-Family Holiday shopping for Muir families
Glow Dance
Middle School Orientation

Halloween Dance: This is the first dance and major project of the year. It usually takes place the week before/of Halloween. For this event, we plan the games and activities, decorate, advertise tickets, sell tickets, and work the different events at the actual dance. We spend a lot of time planning and each year come up with some really cool unique ideas. All of the funds from tickets sold for this event support Adopt-A-Family Christmas Shopping.
Fundraisers: Throughout the year, Student Council organizes many different fundraisers to raise money for the different events they do, especially Adopt-A-Family Holiday Shopping. Each year we tend to do different fundraisers, but more recently we have sold decorated pumpkins during Halloween that we raffle off and have organized spirit days (wear hats, etc).
Selling event tickets: Sometimes throughout the year you may choose to help sell tickets for different events during lunch. Of course you would still get to eat and you won’t miss any class for it. Not only is it fun to sell the tickets with your other members, you also get money and marketing skills.
Adopt-A-Family Holiday shopping for Muir families: This is one of the most loved events of the year. After spending months making money to be able to help families less fortunate than us, Student Council students get assigned anonymous families and get to go shopping. With this information, we take one day out of school to go to Meijer and Kohls. It's really magical to be able to find things on families wish lists for those needing support. We generally go to lunch at Coney Island after shopping.
Glow Dance: This is the last dance of the school year and often happens right before Daylight Savings Time. We use neon colors, UV lights, and glow paint when decorating to make the room look really cool. It's also fun finding new games and activities that people might enjoy.
Middle School Orientation: This occurs in May when CURRENT 5th graders come to Muir. We greet the new students, provide them a tour around the building, team build and make them feel welcome and comfortable.
