Happy Friday, Lakewood Families!
Thank you to Everyone that came out for our McDonald's fundraiser on Wednesday. We had an overwhelming amount of participation from our families and our staff. What a great way to build community and support our school!
Lots of nonfiction writing is going on at Lakewood this week, especially in our upper grades. Students are writing informative and opinion pieces about various topics. A big focus in 3rd-5th grades has been providing evidence for our opinions/theories when writing. Some teachers are utilizing the RACE strategy, which is an acronym for Restate, Answer, Cite, and Explain. This is a strategy that can be applied to writing about what we are reading, researching, or opinion writing.
Just a reminder that on Friday, March 14th, we will be having our Wild West family dance from 6:00-8:00 PM. There will be a DJ, dancing, and fun photo ops. Please note that food will NOT be served at this family event. I made a mistake in last week’s Squawk Talk regarding this.
Also, please make sure your children keep a change of clothes in their locker. With it being so wet on our playground, our students have been needing to change their pants, socks, and shoes more frequently after recess.
Have a great weekend!
