special olympics unified schools fundraiser 1, 2, 3, 4 we declare a penny war February 11th and 12th

Happy Friday, Lakewood Families!

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Kids Heart Challenge event at Milford High School on Saturday, as well as everyone who helped fundraise for the American Heart Association. We are currently 97% of the way to our $14,000 goal, which is just over $500 away. Tomorrow will be the last day to fundraise.

This week and last week, I have had the privilege of being in classrooms to take part in instruction. In kindergarten, I was able to visit Mrs. Anderson’s class to listen to students read and assist them in writing sentences that begin with a capital letter and end with a period. I was able to visit Ms. Ziolko’s class for math as they were learning about finding number partners to make a specific number (two addends to make a sum). In first grade, I was able to read a Scholastic News article with Mrs. Currie’s class and teach an SEL lesson in Ms. Williams’ class on focus. In 2nd grade, I enjoyed listening to Mrs. Parmerlee’s and Ms. Segura’s students read during their reading rotations and WIN centers. Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. Kish allowed me to lead guided reading groups in their classrooms. I have been able to observe 4th grade students learning about area and perimeter, and our 5th grade students learning about long division in math. Lots of great learning is happening in all grades at Lakewood. Great work students and teachers!

Next Tuesday and Wednesday, we will be doing a Penny Wars Fundraiser to raise money for our Special Olympics initiatives, specifically the Unified Schools t-shirts we just purchased for all students. The theme for this Penny Wars is Choose your Favorite Detroit Sports Team. There is a flyer included below.

Have a great weekend, Everyone!
