students at Unified Schools Assembly scrimmage

Happy Friday, Lakewood Families!

Today we had a wonderful day celebrating belonging, inclusion, and unity at Lakewood. Our students welcomed Milford High School and West Bloomfield High School unified sports teams to Lakewood for a basketball scrimmage. All of our students had a wonderful time cheering the students on while they played. Many students made signs to offer their support. All Lakewood students wore our new SOMI shirts created by Oakley Austin. Prior to the scrimmage, a cohort of our students created a video about what being unified means for all students and staff to watch. Here’s the video. We are so proud to kick off our first year as a unified school. What a great opportunity for our young students to see the potential that everyone has, and what it truly means to belong. Here are a couple of pictures…

We have been dealing with a lot of illnesses this week amongst our staff and students, which is typical in the month of January. Please remind your children to wash their hands regularly, especially before eating and after using the bathroom. Additionally, it is very important that children experiencing illness are fever free, diarrhea free, and vomit free for 24 hours before returning back to school. If your child is out more than a couple of days, please provide us with a doctor’s note. This can be sent to julie.stuart@hvs.org.

I hope to see you all tomorrow at the Kids Heart Challenge event at Milford High School from 1-3 PM. Check-in begins at 12:30 PM. We are 90% of the way to our $14,000 goal. The donation due date is February 8th.

Have a great weekend!
