Exciting News for Our School Community!
We are proud to announce that our school has been officially recognized as a Special Olympics Unified School this year! Even more exciting, we’ve been awarded a $1500 grant from Special Olympics Michigan (SOMI). This grant will allow us to focus on three key areas: unified sports, inclusive youth leadership, and promoting social inclusion and respect across our school.
We believe that a positive school climate is one where everyone feels included, and this grant will help us create that environment. We’ve already launched a new campaign called "What Does 'Belong' Mean to You?" which started with a video sent to staff last Friday, and we’ll continue sharing this message monthly. Additionally, we’re planning more social inclusion initiatives as the year progresses.
Our leadership team has already met, and we’re excited to start bringing in students and parents in the coming months to help lead the charge toward a more inclusive and respectful school culture. We are looking for parents and students that might want to be part of this leadership team. If you are interested, please contact Brenda Chappell, brenda.chappell@hvs.org.
Thank you for your support as we work together to create a school where everyone belongs!
